Survive a Zombie Apocalypse

How to: Survive a Zombie Apocalypse (In Fun!)
This is a tactical hypothetical situation playing off the popularity of the walking dead in recent times. With television movies and book it has become a part of the human psyche…Why is this? well many reasons their unending desire for brains and human flesh magnifies our own anxieties fear of random violence…chaos anarchy  fear of that stranger who may or may not have been following you for 4 blocks…and they are us
Should You Stay or Should You Go? This has always been a question I bounce back and forth on Stay tight Bunker in at the place you know well….or head out on foot bike or motorcycle to the unknown where it is most likely the same story.
Either way, there will be trouble. A debate.
The advice is simple, but must be heeded: if you live in a major city leave as soon as possible. Avoid all tunnels at all costs. Use the bridges , but on foot (your car won’t help you, too many traffic jams). Best way to escape is by water. Zombies can’t swim.—most likely we hope so Get out. There are way too many people around cities Take off on foot or a really sturdy, light mountain bike. Your neighbors in their Hummers will laugh at you, but you’ll be pedaling by the abandoned hulks of their vehicles in a few hours as zombies gnaw on their bones.”
Now the other argument
“Stay inside your apartment, lock the doors, fill the bathtub with water. When you do have to go out for supplies, you want to be a response-ready individual.rope know your task at hand and focus on that task board everything up reinforce it grab all the food and water you can..maybe you can simply outlast it or wait for a military response.
SOOOO stay or go??? This is a no-brainer. You gotta hole up somewhere eventually, but pick carefully. Let’s say that the outbreak is localized to your city, but you know that the neighboring town is zombie-free. Flee to the neighboring town. I know this sounds obvious, but don’t sit around waiting for grandma to bite you. Get to the safe town, find place that you can bunker in, and wait
if this is long term remember Zombies tend try to do the things they were doing when they were alive, so they’re gonna head to the mall, or WalMart, or school… you get the idea. And since we’re on the subject, malls are a bad place to hole up in. Too many entrances, and not enough goodies for long term survival.
In short, pick a new general merchandise or grocery big box store. You get lots of canned food to eat, and only one or two large entrances to guard.

Before you can kill them, you have to understand them. always keep in mind locations where people congregate – you’re likely to find lots of zombies there when things turn ugly. Highways, malls, and schools are especially bad.

Ok so after watching 20 flicks we have found more or less 3 types of potential zombies….

THE SLOW UNDEAD ZOMBIE

George A. Romero Zombie HOW TO KILL ONE  These zombies are slow,  If you can’t get away from a slow zombie, you earned dismemberment. exhibiting stiff rigor mortis, and can only be killed by destroying the brain. With Romero zombies (named after the Night of the Living Dead director), you don’t have to be bitten to become a zombie. You just have to die. So if someone around you dies, destroy their brain, just to be safe. As in The Walking Dead, this zombie may hunt by sense of smell, so you can cover yourself in zombie guts and walk among them relatively safely. Some are distracted by fireworks and/or bright, shiny things in the sky. This is an extremely useful trick.
THE FAST-LIVING ZOMBIE a.k.a. the 28 Days Later Zombie

The biggest thing with these zombies is to avoid other people—you don’t want to be in a crowd. The infection can sweep through a crowd in seconds. They’re fast because they’re still alive and have just been infected with a virus, which means you don’t necessarily have to destroy their brain. You can actually kill them in any number of ways, like locking them in a room so they starve to death or die of dehydration. As long as you can outrun them in their initial assault and get somewhere safe, you have a much better chance of long-term survival.
THE TALKING UNKILLABLE ZOMBIE  a.k.a. the Return of the Living Dead Zombie

Basically, there’s no way to kill a Return of the Living Dead zombie. What’s worse, if you set it on fire, you’re probably only spreading the infection. Zombie-ism lives in every cell, meaning if you cut off a zombie’s hand, it will continue to come after you. These are pretty smart and can talk. In Return of the Living Dead—either part one or two—they chop off the head of a zombie, and the head keeps saying: “Brains, brains.” So don’t be fooled when someone rings your doorbell and says they’re delivering pizza when you didn’t order any pizza!
AS SEEN IN Night of the Living Dead (1968) by George A. Romero
—“The zombie as we understand it today was born in 1968.”
REMEMBER
Zombies are going to be lightning quick when first turned. an airborne pathogen is the least likely of all scenarios, and if it were to occur in such a manner; you’re boned …
The top four zombie-defense tools after debating at least 100 guns knifes rifles swords you name it oh an defense..
1. First, hit up a muesuem guarantee you most people will NOT BE THERE what you forget is museums hoard ancient mid evil weapons and from kings even. While evryone is thinking offense think DEFENCE how many times to you see someone get bit or scratec and that is how they go out..well not me  I would wear complete head-to-toe armor. Needs to be a gilt-steel set  It works extremely well. You’re a lot more agile in armor than people think; it’s a misconception that it would slow you down. I’d say there’s only a 5 to 10 percent decrease in mobility, but you can do anything in armor that you can do without. and if you can find that then go Thick leather will work in the short term. Later on, get some aluminum siding or something else metallic and affix it to your clothes. Even zombies can’t bite through that stuff. Important areas to protect include the forearms, neck, and legs. Just make sure it’s flexible enough to give you some freedom of movement. Helmets are a good idea too, but anything other than motorcycle helmets would look dorky, and I’d rather be a zombie than a dork with a pail on my head.

2. My first weapon choice would be a crossbow, which was pretty accurate up to 200 feet. This horn bow from Germany in the 1460s shoots bolts, which are like arrows but shorter and thicker. It will take a moment or two to get it ready to shoot, but the power behind it is not to be underestimated. Those bolts should be able to travel through a couple of zombies at a time, especially if there’s a field of them coming at you.not only that but you will not attract other undead as you shoot away!

3. For anything at close range, you probably just want to chop them up with a nice long Japanese sword. Just be sure to clean it reasonably often if you have two good swords on your side once with a little practice you should be able to handle 20-30 on your own.

4. To keep those creatures a good ten feet away, a staff weapon might be a good idea. I would recommend ahalberd, which is a combination of an ax and a spear mounted to a large wooden pole, between eight and ten feet long. They were used by bodyguards of famous people in Saxony and Germany in the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries. They give you a much farther reach than a standard ax or sword.  Ok now that you have a good arsenal of unconvental weapons keep in mind you will find these 100 times easier than guns when it all hits the fan… don’t get me wrong grab your fav handgun rifle and all the ammo you can for when that time comes…
Now we need to take supplies and what you will need to escape the 100,000 of thousands of dead on your scent
Everything you need to flee the horde. after much research is here.
“Everyone will attack the hardware stores to get zombie-fighting supplies, but you shouldn’t overlook secondary sources like Painting stores (or An art-supply store would have everything from X-Acto knives ($3.40) to flammable turpentine ($9.95).”

Grab some rope and some rappelling gear  Unless you live on the ground floor, chances are you’ll need them!”

“You should have a tool kit  a stormproof flashlight ($25 at EMS), matches a radio , and a hatchet —it’s a tool and a weapon.”

“One of those big blue Ikea bags ($3) to hold your stuff. A tin of Altoids ($2 at Duane Reade) in case you might meet that special someone in your bunker and you will!!. And Slim Jims; they last forever and can be used to distract zombies, as they are made out of humans uhh kind off

“for those of you held up in your bunker…Stock up on batteries use your wit water , duct tape ($4.29 at Duane Reade), canned food (soup,  and DVDs  and just wait it out locked safely in your apartment. After several months of this kind of existence, being devoured by a flesh-eating dead person won’t seem so bad.”
“Even if it’s hot outside, try wearing a tough winter coat  You could get nimbled on a little bit and still be okay.”
“A crowbar . It’s heavy, so it does a lot of the work for you in head-cracking, plus it can help you pry open doors.”
Where to seek refuge with a million cannibals behind you
Your cities zoo
“Once you’ve freed the animals, the enclosures are a perfect place for you to stay safe—that is, once you’ve filled them with supplies.”
In Florida head to Naples they already had blue hair no offence
“ And older zombies are slower zombies.”
Any type of man made steel ship or island of some kind maybe even large oil rigs something of that sort is a possibility
Certain Islands: Rikers, Alkartrez each coastal state will have something
“grabbing a boat and rowing across the water to Alcatraz. Prisons offer an easy way to quarantine new groups of human refugees to make sure none of them is harboring the zombie infection. In New York, there’s Rikers Island, although that offers a challenge in that it might still be full of prisoners, some of them zombies. You could also consider rowing to Ellis Island
A massive cemetery with tombs
“Contrary to popular belief, zombies most likely will not  rise from graves. Cemeteries offer the lowest population density in any urban environment, and no one thinks to go there EVER it is GENIUS really and my favorite, THIS IS CRITICAL. In a zombie crisis, stay away from other people!they will attack and kill you for an apple.
“Zombies have attention-locking problems. When they see something, they fixate. It resembles damage to the parietal lobe (1)—a condition called Bálint’s syndrome. So a zombie will fixate on you, but if you can distract it, it might lose track of you entirely. Zombies are stiff and have balance problems because of damage to the cerebellum (2). It’s the same way you feel when you’re really drunk—you’re suppressing the cerebellum too.”
“In a human, the brain stem, at the top of the spinal cord, is responsible for the core functions of life—respiration, heartbeat. But since zombies don’t breathe or have heartbeats, the core function of the zombie’s existence is controlled by the part of the brain that controls appetite: the hypothalamus (3). If you hit a zombie right between the eyes with enough force, you can go straight back horizontally into the hypothalamus.”
Humans and the media
“in the beginning of a zombie breakout, the CDC would issue a bulletin that would say: ‘These are the cardinal screening signs of zombie-ism. These are the discriminating factors that determine universally whether someone is infected.’ We’d utilize quarantine, just like in the polio epidemic. I know this is an unpopular opinion, but I think if there were a zombie outbreak, in the end we would win. If we keep our heads.” —
Zombies
“I would get to the top of the largest building in your city if you get stuck. I would try to enjoy the view for as long as I could, damage staircases behind you through furniture in the way and you may be all alone up there with a few others and PLENTY of food. and if the zombies were about to get me, just jump off. I understand that sounds somewhat bleak, but I’m fairly certain of two things: (1) I am not coming back (2) I would rather jump then be eaten…
NOW VERY CRITICAL your own set of rules. These are ours feel free to expand…
1. STICK WITH FRIENDS
But not too many.and not just loose aquantices atleast 10 year history
“When venturing outside, make sure you go with one other person you can trust. If you try to go with three, it can get hard to keep track of each other, or the other two could gang up and turn on you or leave you behind.” we try to think of all possibilities
2. DEFEND YOUR TURF
But don’t waste ammo.
“There is no point in fighting zombies unless you want to cleanse a specific area. Otherwise you’ll waste ammo and they will come back and back and back Pick a defensible location: Consider a pier, assuming the zombies are of the nonaquatic variety. Otherwise, try a thick-walled apartment building with some space around it to set up lanes of fire or access routes.”
3. DON’T GET BIT
Armour..gloved thick sweaters shoes do the best you can to protect your body and when you kill a zombie be mindful of the spray back…
But if you get bit   DONT BE A LOSER AND HIDE IT
Use the Buddy System
Don’t be a dummy. If your buddy is bitten by a zombie, shoot him in the head and get it over with.
“If you’re not sick but are what we call the ‘worried well,’ stay off the phone and out of the ER. But if you’re bitten by a zombie, don’t hide it! That’s always the guy who screws everything up—he doesn’t tell anyone he’s been bitten, and then in the middle of this trusted team of people suddenly you have a zombie. Of course, I’m working under the assumption that we can help the bitten. But even if that’s not the case, even if you’re doomed, owning up to the infection is another way of being a hero.”
When You’re Ready to Begin Killing Zombies
“You need a stout weapon to break their heads. A baseball bat—metal, not wood, because wood will break. A cricket bat is terrific. A crowbar—it’s heavy, sword crossbow so it does a lot of the work for you in head-cracking, plus it can help you pry open doors. I would stay away from firearms—unless you’ve trained, it’s really hard to hit a moving target in the head.Dont be fooled by movies if you have 15 walkers heading right at you mostlikley you will mis 12 of them…but with that 6 foot sword not a problem// You can run out of ammo. And firearms encourage overconfidence in a zombie situation.”
Now you have heard what to do your options stay or leave what do load up on what weapons to gather where to get them now it comes down to how many humans are left and can you outlast this plague, This is just one guys take on possible survival and we like our chances….
What happens next depends on a lot of variables. Are there any other survivors? I can imagine a naval fleet having no problems defending itself from zombies. Nuclear powered submarines should be especially safe, they can run for decades. Maybe enough people survived somewhere to come rescue you. If everyone else is zombied, well that would suck.
How long will zombies “live”? This has never been addressed, to my knowledge. Even though they’re dead, they still maintain some kind of metabolism and thought process. You’d think that eventually they’ll cease activity and it will be safe enough to venture out. Then again, they might be immortal, in which case you are screwed. It’s kinda hard to kill 6 billion zombies with just a few 22s and a shotgun.
In any case, I hope I’ve helped you in formulating your own zombie survival plan. as for the top places to look at for riding this out here iswhat you go for…
zombie-prison

Considerations when choosing accomodations during a zombie outbreak:

  • Safety:  Has the structure been thoroughly cleared of undead and is it locked down and fortified to prevent unwanted entry?
  • Defensibility: Can you defend your new home from an undead assault or marauding band of looters?
  • Detection:  The best defense is not being found in the first place.  Can the undead hear or smell you from outside?  Does your home look enticing to marauders who may want to evict you?
  • Escape Access: Do you have a secure second exit if your position becomes overrun?
  • Sustainability:  Is there an accessible source of food, water, or alternative power?
  • Sanity:  Is there room for more than just you? After a few weeks it can get awful lonely as “the last man on earth”.  And if you are with a group, do you have a good supply of books or board games to entertain the troops?
Unfortunately, most people will not have the luxury of a military bunker or nuclear submarine, so I’ll list out my favorite places that may actually be accessible to the average post-apocalyptic survivor. Here’s where you’ll have the best chance of surviving the end of the world:

zombie-farmhouseRemote farmhouse or cabin in the Woods

Finding a remote area away from a city is your best bet for survival.  Even without major fortifications, you can barricade doors and windows and set up an early warning system using wires and cans around the perimeter.  You may get the occasional bogey, but they can be easily dealt with in small numbers if you’re prepared.
Major weaknesses: If a swarm happens upon your location you’re pretty much toast.

zombie-shelterA suburban fall-out shelter

If you really worried about the end, why not invest in a subterranean shelter beneath your house?  Or just cozy up to the paranoid retiree down the street that still thinks it’s 1955 and the Russians are coming.
Major weaknesses:  Boredom, loneliness, and little ability to determine when it’s safe to come out.

A high rise building

If you live in a densely populated area, you’re pretty much screwed.  But since you have limited options, try to go up.  In the cities, you’ll likely have a large group of survivors and that’s good because you’ll need help to fortify the ground floor entrance.  Barricade the doors and windows as a first layer of defense.  Then lock-off all elevators and stairways until you’re sure the second floor is secure.
Major weaknesses: You’re in a city.  That means your time is limited.  Try to find a way to enjoy your last few hours. Pick a building with something fun in it like a revolving rooftop restaurant or a Dave and Busters.

zombie-islandAn Island

Small sail boats are great for a short period of time and don’t require fuel. But sooner or later you’ll need to dock to find food and water.  If you can find an unpopulated island a few miles from land you’ll be in good shape while supplies last.  Just make sure you are far enough from the mainland that no unwanted visitors get washed up on your shore.
Major weaknesses: No where you go will truly be safe, but a barrier of water is your best bet. Depending on the size of the island you may have a limited food supply, but it’s not like you’ll have a lot dining options anywhere else either.
In closing, once again I consulted ZAC for a professional opinion on selecting accommodations.  He doesn’t agree with all my recommendations, but he’s got a little more subject matter expertise, so I’ll end with his advice.
A rural county Sherriff’s office would be ideal. Not many prisoner/zombies to clear out, and its virtually inaccessible, but you have to be able to get in first. Lots of jails have card readers, or remote terminals to open doors which if the power is out then key readers don’t work, and if there’s no one to open the door for you, you’ll never get in unless you make a hole, but then zombies can get in too.
Islands are good, but they have to have fresh water, and enough arid land to grow food. Coconuts will give you the sh%ts if you eat/drink them nonstop, as will most fruit. Something to look into are civil defense fallout shelters. Lots of those around from the cold war days, and generally accessible to the public. Built to take a licking and keep on ticking with air and water filtration systems as well as backup generators and coms equipment. May be 40 yrs. old, but operates on civilian
And now if you can make it 100 percent saftey from any zombie apocolypse. you may have to fight off or barter with people already there but take a look at this place.!!
ALL ELSE FAILS HEAD HERE AND CALL IT A DAY!!

The Perfect House For Surviving A Zombie Apocalypse Is For Sale

Situated deep within the Adirondack State Park in Upstate New York, this cabin was built atop a cold-war era missile silo and is currently on the market for only $1.75 million dollars. It’s basically perfect for surviving any sort of end of the world scenario.
The above-ground home is 2,000 square feet. But if you use the keypad entry to the basement, you’ll find 2,300 more square feet that was a former launch control center and has been converted with dining and entertainment space and two bedroom suites – complete with marble bathrooms. It has 10-foot tall ceilings, simulated daylight and an open floor plan.
Another view of the house.
Aerial shot of the property.
Views from the property.
Your own personal runway.
The cabin.
Inside the upstairs cabin.
Doorway to the basement.
Door to the basement house.
Inside the basement house.
Bathroom.
Stairway to the silo.
Tunnel to the silo.
Inside the missile silo. It’s 9-story structure where a missile was once housed. It’s currently empty, but would be perfect for underground condos.

Lower Your Drop Rate (TWITTER) TWIENDS

LOWER drop rate

We have a goal and that’s to help people grow their online communities. This means different things to different people, but largely it means growing your social networking following steadily over time.A seed based system which allows users to promote their profiles to each other. One can generate seeds through checking out others or one can purchase seeds . Either way it’s a system of self-promotion, and not one where you purchase followers. Purchasing followers – besides being impossible – would be unethical, and is prohibited by twitter. That’s why we have focused on building a system of self-promotion rather. Everyone is free to choose who they follow, and who they unfollow.
Although this is the most ethical way to grow an online following, it does present some problems. One problem is that people may abuse the system, following and unfollowing indiscriminately just to get exposure for themselves. Another problem is that people may not have any control over who they promote themselves to. We’ve decided to address both these problems by providing a set of tools that give more control to members over who they offer seeds to. You can access these options on the twitter settings page. Currently are options…
Filtering on Drop Rate:
A member’s drop rate is a measure of how frequently they unfollow others. A very high drop rate often signals abuse, as members should be checking each other out fairly before unfollowing. A low drop rate does not always signal abuse, as a member may be gradually unfollowing people for valid reasons. A member may unfollow another member after a week or two if they don’t like their tweets, or if they have another issue with following them. This will increase their drop rate, but obviously they may still be a valuable contributing member of the community. We continually monitor following and unfollowing to work out an accurate drop rate for each member. You can choose not to offer seeds to members with high drop rates, or to offer them regardless of their drop rate. We currently recommend that you use an average setting here.

Filtering on Membership Length:
You can choose to exclude members who have signed up recently to twiends, as these are sometimes the most unpredictable members on the site. New members are unknown to twiends and have not established drop rates. Excluding new members will allow you to target lower drop rates, but will also get you a lot less followers. Twiends has thousands of members joining every day. Many of these members only try the site out for a day or two, so if you exclude them you will lower your risk of drops, but will also get a lot less exposure for your profile. But it is useful for those that want to participate more conservatively. We currently recommend that you don’t exclude members based on their membership length. You will experience slightly higher drops, but you will also get a lot more followers and exposure for your profile.
More options over time, but these options give you a lot of control over who you offer your seeds to. If you want to save seeds , lower your drops, and get a few selective followers, then you can do this by setting all your options to the left. If you want to get maximum exposure and don’t mind a higher drop rate then set all your options to the right. Remember though that you will always experience some drops as people are always free to choose who they follow and unfollow over time.
It is natural behavior on twitter to unfollow some people who you are no longer interested in following. At twiends we just want to create complete transparency over this process and complete choice for those following and being followed. Although the settings above are the currently recommended ones, we continually test and monitor activity on the site to improve performance, and we may of course change our recommendations going forward
This will help you keep your followers…

Who Can You Trust Online?

Who Can You Trust Online?

I’m very disturbed by events regarding who I trust online. It’s been almost a year since I first began to actively use social media. I made my Facebook & twitter accounts  9 months ago. The  first people I met on twitter taught me many lessons about the value of online privacy.

Never send out pictures of yourself to anyone. Never tell them where you live etcetc… They may seem to be the nicest or most interesting person you’ve met, but trust me, people online are 99% of the time not what they seem to be. It’s so easy to be whoever you want to be behind a screen name & very few people are satisfied to be themselves. You cannot trust them. That is just the truth. I trust 300 out of my 30,000 to give you an idea…

Avoid telling your exact location if possible. A little bit of privacy goes a long way. Most of us live fairly public lives, but your information is out there for people to find. It is very easy to do now.If you’d like to see how easy it is, start searching yourself sometime. You will be shocked by what you find & how easily you find it. I am talking your address phone number when you were married maybe even bank info…

The best advice I can give is don’t get SUPER close with anyone you meet on the internet. Trust your first instincts about people, they’re usually right. No need to be desperate for internet friends because there is an abundance to choose from. The beautiful thing online is that you can reach the world in your own way. Just a reminder to be careful nothing more… Justin

Make Money with Google Plus with evidence

5 Ways to Make Money with Google Plus

Oh and don’t mind the error you may see like I said not a blogger just show you the evidence!

  • 1digg
  • 16

  • Making money with Google+ is a little different than – making money with Facebook or Twitter. Google is still rolling out changes to Google+, so that all users are having to figure things out , there are certain things you can do now to make your Google+ business successful
Google+ is just another social network, but functions MUCH different from Facebook or Twitter.

These five  steps will help you the best I can so that you can make more money for your business. I included proof anyone can blog about it hardly anyone can show it. Here is a great example of making money on Gplus
Explode your Google Plus Account

GAINED over 400 followers in 4 days every circle share.

1. Get More Followers DUH right easier said then done.

Before you start trying to use affiliate links or boost your business or product through Google+,  focus on getting more followers.

Build personal Google+ circles of friends, family, business contacts, set up circle shares and more.

DO NOT focus on making money. Hold off for awhile now while you’re building followers, you’ll become WAY more credible on Google+.
Explode your Google Plus Account

106 shares on a circle share I did called the SNOWBALLCIRCLE do you realize how many people that reached say 106 times 1000 followers per average so 106,000 could be 10 times more due to integration more followers on average etc.

For now, just be a part of the conversation, and bring in business when it is yelling your name no more than that right now.

2. Be Professional

The average age/wisdom of a Google+ user is different from that of a person with a Facebook account
(NO OFFENSE). Google+ is a little more sophisticated, and many users have been around the block they know their shi*.

This means that you need to tweak the way you interact on Google+ in order to keep your circles engaged. In general, a more  professional, relevant persona will be necessary to maintain a good Google+ following and believe me I am serious so spend the time or don’t do it at all.Explode your Google Plus Account
Google Plus stats have been on those for 6 months so the true number very well could be 100k 100k 100k imagine that traffic this is my own taken from KLOUT

3. Re-Post with Other Sites
As you’re building your Google+ account, use re-posts from your Facebook and Twitter accounts. You’ll most likely have different contacts on each site Plus, this can make getting your Google+ site going a lot simpler for you.

4. Learn the Differences

Before you jump into marketing through Google+ and actually making money for your business, make sure you understand the differences between Google+ and the other social networks you’re already using.

Right now, everyone is still trying to figure out Gplus. Just take your time, and don’t worry about making money right away, since you will be able to make more in the long run if you really understand the basic differences between Google+ and your other social networks.
Explode your Google Plus Account
I didn’t make a dime for 3 months to making lets say the salary of an average household income just from g plus.

5. Get Google+ On Your Website

Most essential. Get a “plus one” symbol on your websites so that you can start using Google+ there as soon as possible.
Explode your Google Plus Account
I did and look at my results 30k a week 120k a year over 1.4 million view a year did I mention I really don’t try on that site…. PROOF RANKED 673 in USA

DAILY VIEWS to a blog I hardly put effort into all once I started these tips.

It’s just like a Facebook like button but it factors into site ranking so add to every site you have NOW! If you want more proof here you go RANKED 673 in USA

How To Get Twitter Followers

How To Get Twitter Followers (ethically)

Over the years I have researched a number of ways to promote twitter accounts, and we want to share some of these ideas with you. Many users first start out by trying to buy Twitter followers, not realizing that this is against twitter’s rules. Buying followers is a zero sum game, as many of the operators that try and sell followers use unethical means to add followers to your account.
The good news is that there are a number of ways to promote your twitter account safely and ethically. Some are easy to do, some are little more complex, and some even give you ways to get more twitter followers for free. We’ve broken them up into methods you can use online, things you can do on Twitter itself, and real-world methods too.

Things you can do online

Advertise on Twitter
One of the most effective ways to promote yourself is on twitter itself. They offer solutions for promoting your profile, promoting your tweets, or promoting trends. Each method gives you a slightly different way to get your message across. This form of promotion is really powerful when used in combination with one of the other methods listed below, such as running a contest. Promoting your profile will help you grow your following directly, while promoting tweets and trends will allow you to drive other initiatives used to get exposure for yourself.
Run a contest
Running a contest is a great way to attract new followers. Offer a good prize and make sure you clearly communicate the rules of entry. If your prize is related to your brand then it can also help find targeted followers who are interested in your area of expertise.
Be creative! Try giving away an experience, a vacation, a meeting with a celebrity (maybe you?) Contests draw attention! Offer multiple prizes, including a grand prize, 3-5 mid-level prizes, and as many small prizes as you feel like. Set a hashtag for your contest like #mycontestisawesome or #winmystuff, and include it in every tweet about your contest.
Launch your contest through Twitter and any other mediums you are using. Blogs are great at driving contest traffic, because they can explain the prizes and rules in greater detail. Then just tweet about your contest as often as you feel like until you reach your milestone, and award prizes!
Directories – e.g. Twiends!
There are dozens of directories of Twitter users online, including Twiends, WeFollow, and Twellow. Add yourself to as many directories as you can find under the proper categories, and you will begin to see some users following you from these sites. When someone follows you through one of these directories you will receive a notification email from Twitter – if you have these turned on. In these notifications you can see which directory they followed you through.
Guest Blogging
Even if you don’t have a blog of your own, you can easily gain notoriety by writing posts for other blogs. Running a blog is hard work, and most people and companies welcome well written posts to give them a break. If you do score an opportunity to guest post, link to your blog if you like, but be sure to link to your Twitter account as well. Some people will follow you if they liked the post.
This strategy works very well if you can give readers an incentive to follow you. Will they hear about more posts like the one you wrote? Is it the only way to find all of your guest posts? Do you tweet the location of buried treasure on International Talk like a Pirate Day?
Give them a reason to follow you, and you will be amazed at how effective this strategy can be.
Blog about your Twitter account
On the same note, if you do have a blog, write a post about your Twitter account. Post about how you like Twitter, how you hate Twitter, different types of Twitter people and posts you like or dislike, who you follow… Anything, really. Make sure to mention your Twitter account (and suggest that people follow you) at least once in the article.
You can also write a post about what you would say with more than 140 characters to certain Twitter celebrities. Do you wish you could tell Shaq about your “random act of Shaqness”? Want to get @NotTinaFey to read your latest comedy script? Social media is all about being unique – find something that is memorable, and gently remind people that your tweets are memorable, too!
Do podcasts
Podcasting is a great way to get attention, it showcases your expertise, and helps gather an audience. A podcast is much like a blog, but it is recorded audio instead of written words.
Creating your own podcast is simple. All you have to do is download a program such as Audacity (or, if you’re on a Mac, GarageBand works well.) Record your audio, edit out long pauses or background noise, add in any music you like for an intro or outro, and at the very end, mention that people can follow you on Twitter “for more podcasts like these!” Now create an account at a podcast hosting service like PodStrike! or PodBlaze, upload your content, configure your settings, and you are good to go!
You can create your own podcast, or be featured or interviewed on a popular podcast. Either way, make sure you mention your Twitter account at least twice during your podcast – once right at the end – to get the most followers on Twitter from this method.
Add a Twitter Widget
Did you know that you can add a Twitter widget on LinkedIn that will display your recent tweets? How about on your blog? There are many places online that will allow you to display a list of your latest tweets, and these widgets are a great source of new followers!
Few people integrate their Twitter account with LinkedIn, but if you are well networked on LinkedIn, it can help you encourage colleagues and friends to follow you. Placing a link to Twitter on your blog is obvious, but actually listing your tweets is an even more effective way to gain new followers. You can even get a customized widget from Twitter itself that works on any site, from static HTML sites to Tumblr, Blogger, WordPress, and anywhere that will allow you to add custom code!
Webinars
Webinars are essentially online seminars, so the exposure is similar to an offline seminar. The advantage of webinars is that they are typically for mixed online/offline audiences, and in addition to online and/or telephone audio, you can also display on screen slideshows and links with the appropriate software or service. This is a perfect medium to get Twitter followers, since you can link directly to your Twitter account during and after the webinar for attendees. You can begin by creating a template for your slideshow that includes your Twitter information in the bottom right hand corner. Many attendees will automatically look in that corner of the presentation last, while listening to your information. It is the perfect place to put information that you would like them to act on, as they will be available to follow you during the presentation.
Encourage Twitter users to follow you throughout the presentation, offering more tips, tricks, reports, discounts, and offers via Twitter. Another seldom used strategy is to actually offer to interact with webinar goers via Twitter during the event. If you plan on hosting a Q&A session, rather than asking participants to submit their questions via email, tell them to follow you on Twitter and tweet their questions. Not only will this get you immediate followers from the participants, but their followers will see the questions being posed to you as well, and may follow if you can offer expert advice.
Do support through Twitter
Now, we’re not suggesting you throw away your helpdesk, but add Twitter as a support channel. You may find that users are already tweeting questions at you. Most good helpdesk software already offers Twitter integration.
Some people like posting support questions via Twitter, as they feel the public nature of it will lead to a faster response. Some prefer using private channels and may not use Twitter, but adding it will win you some new followers providing you offer good timely support through it.
Video tutorial
People love to watch video’s. For many it’s their preferred route for learning something new. Some people have difficulty learning from written guides, and prefer to learn from content that is easier to absorb. Creating video tutorials for your area of expertise is a great way to get ‘relevant’ exposure for yourself.
Place your Twitter username in various places in the video, including the end, and if people feel they have learnt something from you then they may be inclined to follow you. There are also plenty of places to upload your videos, including YouTube and other specialist tutorial sites.
Become a forum moderator
Consider becoming a forum moderator in a forum you’re knowledgeable about. You can usually include a link to your Twitter in your forum bio, and by being active in the forum you can position yourself as an expert in your field. By being helpful to others you can easily win over some loyal supporters.

Things you can do in the real world

Speaking at conferences
While most people already know that the exposure you can gain from speaking at conferences is great for business, few people bother promoting their social media accounts through these mediums. The next time you’re giving a presentation at a seminar or conference, mention your Twitter account. If you are using presentation software or an on-screen image during your speech, display your username on screen.
If your audience likes what you have to say, they may just follow you later! You can even host the conference yourself, including your Twitter information on conference tickets and tweet the events as they happen. When it comes to live events, the sky is the limit!
Hosting tweetups
Most of the time, offline strategies involve people finding you offline and connecting with you online afterwards. Tweetups are exactly the opposite – they allow you the opportunity to connect with Twitter users in person, even if you have never met before. Because the group of Twitter users that meet is often diverse (and often inviting their own followers and friends,) you will likely gain at least a few new followers from a tweetup.
You can start a tweetup simply by asking around your circle of twitter followers. Offer to host the event at a coffee shop, conference, restaurant, or even your offices. Create a dedicated web page or blog post for the event, a hash tag (for example, #mytweetup) so that users can follow the event, and encourage tweeters to share with their friends and followers as well. You can gain large amounts of exposure from something this simple!
Radio interviews
Much like speaking at conferences, radio interviews are a great way to get attention. Whether you’re through AM/FM, satellite, internet, or even Blog Talk Radio, the interviews can be used to gain some positive and wildly popular PR. To be interviewed on the radio, you need to make yourself available as an expert. Watch your local stations for requests (they often publish them via social media,) list yourself in expert directories, and even contact the station directly and ask if they have any upcoming opportunities for experts.
While you won’t have a visual medium to display your Twitter account, repeating your Twitter username a few times during your interview can help you gain new followers. You can also use your interview time to promote contests and upcoming events through your Twitter feed, which is sure to get you some new followers in no time at all!
Host a debate
In junior high, debate class was the space for aspiring politicians and others with a need for extra-curricular activities. In the adult world, debates are an essential forum for communication on key issues like the environment, finance, politics, and more. If you work in an industry with many insightful leaders and a “hot topic” worthy of debate, hosting a debate yourself can be very lucrative and offer high levels of exposure.
Aside from the attendees, debates often gain media exposure through both traditional outlets and trade publications. Quotes and footage from debates can even go viral through social media sites, gaining further attention.
Publicizing your Twitter account as you host the event and broadcasting the key points of the debate via Twitter for those who may not be present are both great ways to gain new followers. If you are lucky enough, some quotes from the event may go viral on Twitter, and yes – they will have your username attached to the “retweet”. Do not underestimate the power of offline events in the online world!
Newspaper interviews and articles
If you can somehow tie your business or industry to a current event, it can be easy to get an article in the traditional press that includes your information. You can distribute your own article via press release, or make yourself available for expert interviews through directories and by approaching the media directly.
If you have the resources, hiring a public relations firm can be a great help with this. They can get you expert interviews in many newspapers and national publications, and because of their existing relationship with the editor, you will often be allowed to include a bit more company information than the average submission.
If you don’t have the resources (or just prefer DIY methods), write a compelling press release that ties your business to a current event. Distribute it to the local media, and call to follow up. Create a media kit or press kit for distribution when someone asks for information about you and your business. Getting interviews in traditional press isn’t difficult for a small business owner, but it does take an investment of time and some persistence.
When you do gain some media exposure, while most companies are just now beginning to include links to their website in the article, you can include links to social media accounts like Twitter to get new followers and exposure for your expertise.
Networking events
If you run a business, you likely have a local networking event that you do or can attend. Publicizing your Twitter profile at events like these through your business cards, stickers, and stamps can gain you a large number of targeted Twitter followers very quickly! Be sure to offer an incentive for following you, such as free reports, discounts, or updates.
Write a book/eBook
Few things say “I’m an expert in my field” like being a published author. While print titles still have more clout with traditional audiences, eBooks like those for Kindle and other e-readers are gaining popularity. If you’re looking to establish yourself as an expert, traditional publishing houses may get you the most notoriety, but self-publishing with a good public relations agent can get you similar results today.
Being sure to include your social media links – including Twitter – is a great way to allow readers to connect with your expertise after reading your book. Start by offering your Twitter ID on the inside front cover, where many bookstore shoppers will look for your bio; then include your information on the back cover, in the introduction, and throughout the book.
If you are willing to think outside of the box, you can even include your Twitter ID in the footer of every page. Even if they don’t follow you immediately after reading the book, they will subconsciously recognize your account in the future and be more willing to follow you if they come across your name again.
Several prominent social media celebrities even use Twitter to launch subsequent titles, so don’t overlook the possibilities here. The opportunities are endless!
Research and publish a report
Reports and white papers are still an essential form of communication for industries and markets around the globe. If you have any data or research to share, or even just helpful ideas, publishing a report or whitepaper can successfully get you the attention of industry leaders, media, and yes – social media.
You can get your white papers and reports distributed by trade magazine distributors across North America, which will often give you the customers’ information. Offer the report or whitepaper on your own website, as well as on Twitter itself. You may find that the link to your report gets retweeted, getting you valuable exposure!
As with other forms of offline publishing, be sure to utilize your author’s bio and include links to Twitter and other profiles.

Tweeting and Retweeting

Tweet the “Right” Content
Take a look at what those in your market with the most followers are tweeting about. Do they consistently post a certain type of content? Do they discuss one particular topic a lot? Take notes. Obviously they have so many followers for a reason. Tweet as they tweet, but put across your own personality.
Some basic guidelines to follow include tweeting about the future – making predictions, talking about upcoming news, and other future-based topics make you more interesting than the Twitter user who only talks about things that happened last year. You should also tweet about anything that is a little bit unique, off beat, or relatively unheard of in your industry.
Tweets that apply current events to your industry are also engaging. For example, for someone in the financial services industry, a tweet that says “How will the upcoming summer affect your financial planning?” will start more conversations than “Come see me today for a report on your net savings allowance.” Be creative. Use Twitter as a medium to express your wit, personality, and let your fun side come out a little bit.
Use #Hashtags
Hashtags are more than just a trend; they are a unique way that Twitter allows users to track content. If someone wants to see everything happening on Twitter about the latest celebrity mishap, they’ll search for a hashtag like “#______rehab” or “#dui______”. The same holds true in your industry, and for your individual company. Tagging your posts with things like “#convention2011” or “#newproduct” can help people find and notice your tweets. Obviously you can be a bit more creative than the examples above, but they will get you started. Watch how the most popular users in your industry are using hashtags, and follow by their example.
Interact
This is something many new users miss on Twitter. To be perfectly clear, Twitter is not a medium to broadcast like television or radio – it is a medium to broadcast AND interact, like face to face meetings. You want to reply, retweet, comment, and mention others as much as you possibly can. When you start your account, spend most of your time replying, commenting, retweeting, and mentioning others. Even when you post content, recommend it to someone by including their username. Over time you can start including some broadcast style tweets, and eventually some sales messages. Just keep in mind that even if someone only has 50 followers, it only takes one to make a difference. Having your Twitter ID in front of their followers can make a big difference for you.
Retweet the right stuff
Industry leaders, celebrities, gurus, and others with large followings love getting retweets. Some of them will even occasionally thank you for your retweets by mentioning your name e.g. “Hey @awesomeco4444, thanks for the RT!”. The benefits, just like replying, are that your name gets out in front of everyone that follows them!
There are a few tricks to making this work for you. First, make sure to only retweet content that you feel would be interesting to your readers, as they may retweet as well (which sometimes broadcasts your name to their followers, too!) Second, avoid retweeting old content. Twitter is all about relevance and so the timeliness of your retweet is almost as important as the content.
Retweet important news
How many times have you seen news break on Twitter? How many times have you seen interesting stories related to your market being discussed via tweets? If you haven’t joined in yet, now is the time! Many people will follow the tweets of interesting news stories and articles, Tweets about current or upcoming events, or industry related gossip. Getting in your two cents could do more than just satisfy your inner need to be heard, it could get you some more Twitter followers!
For example, some Twitter users have gained followers by tweeting about space shuttle launches. Of course not everyone is interested in the content, but those who are were paying attention to anyone commenting about the final launch of the NASA program. In the weeks before the final launch, some users went from relative obscurity to thousands of followers just by piggybacking off of the popularity of the news they were tweeting about.

In Print

Print ads
Print ads are one of the more expensive forms of advertising available to small businesses today, so every time you invest in that type of advertising you need to maximize your return. A great way to do this is to include links to your social media accounts (like Twitter) in the ad.
Entice customers with offers of deals, discounts, and coupons via Twitter and they are sure to follow you. This allows you to get repeated contact with potential customers from just one investment in advertising, exponentially increasing the potential for return.
Magazine articles
Like newspaper articles, magazine articles can get you great attention from readers and potential customers. Unlike newspapers, however, they can be much longer in length, explain things in much more depth, and offer more opportunities for promotion.
Go to the website for your favorite industry magazine and look for a link to their publishing schedule. There, magazines will list topics that they are going to be covering in the coming months. If you feel you can contribute to one of these topics, contact the editor with a proposal for your article. Do not send the whole article! Editors need a quick glance to determine if your content will be worthy, before approving you to begin work.
The great thing about working with magazines is that in certain circumstances, you can even get paid for your submission. How many opportunities do you have that allow your advertising to pay you? Magazine editors will typically allow for a longer author’s bio, offer more opportunities for promotion, and may even extend offers for inexpensive advertising in exchange for your contribution.
Feature columns
Even more powerful than individual newspaper or magazine articles are feature columns. If you have the dedicated time, offering to write a feature column for a magazine or newspaper will not only assist the editor with their workload but give you more opportunities for promotion.
Often times, feature columnists will get their bio published with the column monthly as well as in the front of the magazine with the other staff writers. Including your Twitter link along with your other biographical information in the magazine can get you more followers while building expert status.
Book contributor
Even if you do not have a book “in you”, there are many ways to get your biographical information into print. One way is to contribute to a book that is being published in your field. Many times, when someone wishes to publish a book, they may not have the required expertise to complete the information by themselves. If you can contribute information to this book, your information (including your Twitter account) can be included as a contributor or co-author.
Look for authors in your industry, and watch what industry leaders are doing. See if there are any books currently on the market in your niche with multiple contributors, and follow up with the publisher or author. Perhaps you could even be the primary author of your own book, and allow others to contribute.
If there are multiple contributors you may not get as much attention as if you were the only author, but if the information you contribute is valuable, you can get a fair amount of new followers from just a small amount of information shared.

Other bits and pieces

Put Your Twitter Link Everywhere
This means online and offline, everywhere you can put it. Link to Twitter from Facebook, from your blog, from your guest posts, from your videos, in your email signature, and anywhere else you can think of. Include your Twitter ID on your offline materials as well, from business cards to brochures, signs, flyers, or even on your shirt. By putting an “@” sign in front of your username (like this – “@yourusername”), most people will understand that you are listing your Twitter name.
Use a Quick Response (QR) Code
There are several services online that allow you to create quick response or QR codes. These codes are simple square barcodes that are gaining massive popularity with smartphone users, as they can be used to direct any phone to a specific web address just by taking a picture.
Create a QR code that links to your Twitter profile, and put it up everywhere – on your website, on your business cards, on any signage outside of your office or store, or anywhere else you can think of that might attract enough attention to be worth a snapshot.
Add Twitter to your packaging
Do you ship products? Is your Twitter link or QR code on your packaging somewhere? If not, it should be! What better way to encourage people to follow and tweet about you than to announce your presence on Twitter right as they receive your product? For example, some companies have not only mentioned their own Twitter ID, but have printed a random tweet from a customer on the outside of their package. By leaving the “@ourcompany” in the tweet, they can gain new followers. By including a testimonial on the outside of the packaging, they are making a more memorable experience for their customers that will likely mean more purchases in the future. This strategy can help your business in more ways than one!
Address labels
Did you realize that your address label is an advertising and branding opportunity? While typical address labels will include the company name and address, and perhaps a logo, some emerging companies are beginning to include their URL as well. Be ahead of the pack, and include your Twitter information right on the outside of your packages and envelopes! When your customers or suppliers receive mail for you, they will look at the address label to see where the letter or parcel came from. You can also put your Twitter ID on the back of the envelope, on or just below the flap. This is a perfect opportunity to stay in touch, long after the final invoice is sent!
Company Checks
Another often overlook branding opportunity is the company check. While most banks will limit the amount of information you can have printed, custom check companies and check printers will allow you to include more information – from your URL, to your phone number, address, and yes – even your Twitter account. When your suppliers receive a check from you, or your customers receive a referral bonus, they will look to see who has sent them a payment. What better way to say “I value our relationship and want to stay in touch” than to offer your social media information directly on the check?
Pens, notebooks, letter openers, etc. (aka swag)
Whether you call it promotional items, promos, gifts, or even swag, getting custom printed office supplies like pens and letter openers is no small investment. While it is important to include your logo, business name, phone number, and URL, if you have the space you should include your Twitter name as well. The point of these types of promotions is to have your contact information handy any time they use your item. Imagine seeing your Twitter ID every time they sign their receipt!
Company vehicles
Your logo, your company name, your phone number, and your website address. These are the typical things you may include on the decals for your company vehicles. Something you may not have considered was to include your social media information, like your Twitter account, right on your company vehicle. Imagine how many new followers you can gain by driving your Twitter username around town, arriving at clients’ homes with your social media information displayed clearly for all to see.
Phone book
While many companies are beginning to reduce the size, cost, reach, and frequency of their phone book advertising, it is still a large percentage of the advertising spend for small businesses. Stretch your dollar even further by including your Twitter account information right in the phone book ad. Directing potential customers to follow you on Twitter right in the phone book can be a powerful strategy. While most customers looking in the phone book will be seeking an immediate solution.
Stickers
A great alternative to the rubber stamp is the sticker. Stickers are fun, easy to use, inexpensive, and can be stuck virtually anywhere! Try getting your Twitter ID made into a sticker, and putting it on everything from the backs of chairs to cash registers, the bumpers on company vehicles, receipts, packaging, shopping bags, and more. Even more creatively, try giving the stickers out to customers with the backing still attached. Tell them to feel free to put it anywhere they like. Be sure not to stick them in places that will annoy people though..
Offer discounts and deals in store to followers
While many of these methods are about print advertising and getting in front of large amounts of people, never underestimate the power of your office or retail location if you have one. Especially for retail and food service businesses, your physical location is an ideal place to publicize your social media links. Imagine walking into a store, and seeing their Twitter ID posted on the counter? Or walking into a restaurant and seeing their Twitter ID or QR code on the menu?
You can’t simply post your Twitter account everywhere, however. You’re going to need to entice your customers with something. Offer daily deals, specials, coupons, or discounts to customers who follow you on Twitter. An inexpensive way to do this is to get a rubber stamp customized with your Twitter ID on it, and simply stamp your ID on everything. No new printing costs, no need to change the receipt printer – just stamp, stamp, stamp away!

Lytro (The Social Media King Of Cameras)

The Social Media King of Cameras is here!

Lytro lets you take pictures like never before. Unlike a conventional camera that captures a single plane of light, the Lytro camera captures the entire light field, which is all the light traveling in every direction in every point in space.

Capture everything – instantly.
Capture living pictures with the press of a single button. By instantly capturing complete light field data, the Lytro camera gives you capabilities you’ve never had in a regular camera. Focus after the fact.

Since you’ll capture the color, intensity, and direction of all the light, you can experience the first major light field capability – focusing after the fact. Focus and re-focus, anywhere in the picture. You can refocus your pictures at anytime.

No auto-focus motor. No auto-focus motor means no shutter delay. So, capture the moment you meant to capture not the one a shutter-delayed camera captured for you. Share the love. #lytro#camera #photography

Easily share from the desktop or from Lytro.com to friends and family on Facebook, Twitter, email or your blog.

Lytro completes the job of taking light fields out of the research lab and making them available for everyone, in the form of the world’s first Lytro Light Field Camera.

Defining the Light Field

The light field is a core concept in imaging science, representing fundamentally more powerful data than in regular photographs. The light field fully defines how a scene appears. It is the amount of light traveling in every direction through every point in space. Conventional cameras cannot record the light field.
Capturing the Light Field
Recording light fields requires an innovative, entirely new kind of sensor called a light field sensor. The light field sensor captures the color, intensity and vector direction of the rays of light. This directional information is completely lost with traditional camera sensors, which simply add up all the light rays and record them as a single amount of light.

Processing the Light Field
How do light field cameras make use of the additional information? By substituting powerful software for many of the internal parts of regular cameras, light field processing introduces new capabilities that were never before possible. Sophisticated algorithms use the full light field to unleash new ways to make and view pictures.

Relying on software rather than components can improve performance, from increased speed of picture taking to the potential for capturing better pictures in low light. It also creates new opportunities to innovate on camera lenses, controls and design.

About Living Pictures

The way we communicate visually is evolving rapidly, and people’s expectations are changing in lockstep. Light field cameras offer astonishing capabilities. They allow both the picture taker and the viewer to focus pictures after they’re snapped, shift their perspective of the scene, and even switch seamlessly between 2D and 3D views. With these amazing capabilities, pictures become immersive, interactive visual stories that were never before possible – they become living pictures.

Getting Great Lytro Photos

This is not a camera for pros or science nerds. This is primarily a camera for casual photographers — people who probably take most of their pictures on a cellphone or a Flip camera. It’s simple to use, and the photos are clearly crafted for sharing.
You’ll get photos with the most dramatic refocusing effects if you do three simple things:

  1. Get up close and personal with your subject. Don’t be afraid to jam the Lytro right in the face of the person (or whatever) that you want in the foreground. Indeed, if you don’t do this the focus effect, while present, won’t be that pronounced. You may need to use the Lytro’s Creative Mode to help you if you’re really close (more on that in a bit).
  2. Zoom. A lot. Zooming in will emphasize the difference in focus between subjects even more. Of course, it may also push some things out of the frame, so use carefully.
  3. Have a “distant” background. To get the maximum blur/focus effect on your foreground subject, try to have something in the background that’s very far away. If you’re outside, this should be easy, but indoors it helps to either shoot in front of a window (with distant objects outside) or frame your shot with a wall as far back as possible.

To create a shot like that, you’ll need to use Creative Mode. This is about as “pro” as the Lytro gets, and it’s pretty simple. What Creative Mode does is change the center of focus — essentially the “default” distance that the camera uses as a reference for your refocusing range. In regular mode, the minimum distance (where things start to go blurry no matter what) is about 6 inches. In Creative Mode, it’s wherever you want; just tap your target on the screen, and the center-of-focus zeros in on that subject.
Sharing and Software
The “light field engine” on board the Lytro does the heavy lifting in making a photo you can refocus. It then creates a self-contained file — an “.lfp” file — that you transfer to your Mac. PC software is in process.
You can also share Lytro living pictures on the world’s biggest photo-sharing site: Facebook. You can share either from your account on Lytro.com or straight from they Lytro client software. When someone first clicks on the photo, the pic politely tells the person that that they can click to refocus and double click to zoom.
The Lytro experience is all about sharing.
The aspect ratio is locked, so forget changing it. In fact there’s no editing software of any kind; no adjusting, cropping or even touching up your photos. What you’ve captured is what you’ve got, at least for now — Lytro says editing software is in the works.
Clicking on the Info button while viewing a photo in the client or on Lytro.com reveals the date, shutter speed, ISO, focal length and whether or not the picture was taken in Creative Mode. You generally don’t get that level of information with most cameras — one of the benefits of the image format coming from the same company that makes your hardware.
An annoying detail: The magnetic lens cap seems almost designed so you’ll lose it. The magnet holds it pretty loosely, and it has a propensity to slide off. I know Lytro’s trying to stand out with its design, but a regular cap that snaps in place would have been a much better choice.

The App

Camera phones have been getting people to think less about focus and more about sharing for years. While the choice to target only Mac users right out of the gate is a bit perplexing, emphasizing sharing via Facebook is an excellent, if not essential move.
The social aspect is where Lytro lives or dies. If its early adopters start telling stories with their cameras — and those stories are worth sharing — Lytro will transition from curious trick to phenomenon. Very Promising Technology!

Price and Appeal

The appeal is easy to see—everyone who has picked up a camera has had to deal with missing a crucial shot due to a focus error. It’s available in two versions—a $399 model with 8GB of internal memory, and a $499 version with 16GB.

The Year of Online Influence! Klout, Kred, Peer Index

Year of Online Influence! Klout, Kred, Peer Index

If 2011 was Google Plus bursting on the scene, 2012 will be defined as the year when online influence measuring came of age. Klout,  Kred and Peer Index have been busy rewriting the rules of the game, there is no way back with respect to the step forward they took for online reputation and personal branding. They say a GREAT score is 45 or higher well I am sitting pretty at a 65! Klout Score If you want to know tips ask me.

Klout came under heavy firebecause of an upgrade and a change of their algorithm basically we were pissed our score dropped! The creative teams behind Klout put the fire out by incorporating features that have added complexity but also a new reliability.

I think most will admit we are better off today than in the pre-Klout era when number of followers, RTs and updates were the only tools at our disposal. The level of sophistication displayed by the three apps I’ll be considering sets the stage of a new golden era in the measuring of influence.

Klout has been of the first online influence measuring tools.  Its popularity has been helped by the two key features  its ‘game’ feel (with colorful badges and perks) together with its ‘social’ elements (Klout allows us to build a community of ‘influencers’ and ‘influenced’, create new Twitter-style lists, and endorse with ‘K+’ influencers who deal with topics such as personal branding, internet marketing or careers –Klout users get tagged  from ‘broadcaster’ (currently a broadcaster myself) to ‘pundit’ and including ‘celebrity’, ‘thought leader’ and ‘specialist’. Even if this was Klout’s only feature, it would make the application pretty cool

Those with a more numbers and analytics streak  will love Peer Index, the English answer to Klout. Peer Index announced that it would integrate with the Twitter app SocialBro, proof of the growing popularity of online influence measurers with social media and more specifically Twitter apps. Do not be misled by numbers: even when the Peer Index score goes from 0 to 100, a figure above 50 would mean that you are in the top 10 percentile (I am currently 60) Peer Index Score and a figure above 90 in top the 0.1%.

Factors taken into account in the Peer Index algorithm include Authority, Resonance, Audience, Activity and a filter to ensure that we are not spammers or a bot. Recently the Peer Index CEO asserted that his tool was not just able to detect how influential a person was, but also how engaged they were on certain topics and announced that Peer Index would integrate with Hootsuite and Tweetdeck competitors MarketMeSuite. Bear in mind that at present Peer Index (unlike Klout) focuses exclusively on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.

Now  KRED another online influence measuring app taking the Social Media community by shock and awe. KRED stands out due to the unique transparency of its algorithm and the fact that we don’t get a score for a change but a dual mutually-reinforcing metric of Influence and Outreach – both including factors such as RTs, Twitter DMs, G+1, follows, etc. Kred was the most transparent and with reason: the app lists every single online interaction considered and the ‘points’ it has generated. Kred is also innovative in that it allows us to add offline influence to its algorithm by contacting the PeopleBrowsr team that created the app and telling them of our achievements in fields like sports, academia, etc. They say 0.01 percent have an 800 Kred score I will take my 792! KRED OUTREACH

We are witnessing the impact of online influence measuring tools on personal branding, with companies including Klout and similar scores for interviewing processes! The integration of Klout, Kred & Peer Index with other social media tools will accelerate and it will not be long before it will simply become impractical to use Twitter without reference to an influence score. I highly advise that you use all 3 of these apps and get used to them as you have only seen the beginning. Get in NOW.

For tips on how I have accomplished such a high mark in all 3 applications ask me and I will tell! Justin Matthew
